My Dad, like many kids of his generation (ie. old), grew up a Yankees fan. However, he had never been to Yankees stadium. We wanted to get him out to visit Brandon, and see NY in the fall, and thought it was a perfect chance to catch a game at Yankees Stadium before they tear down the "House that Ruth Built". He was able to make it for the final series played at the stadium, the second to last home game. Unfortunately, after 13 straight seasons in the post season, the Yankees didn't make it this year, but still a great game.
Beautiful weather, lots of nostalgia, peanuts, cracker jacks, hot dogs, a packed house...and plenty of warnings that there were thousands of police officers, both uniformed and plain clothes, waiting to bust you if you tried to take home a piece of the stadium as a souvenir. The Yankees beat the Orioles in the bottom of the ninth, 1-0. By Yankees standards, the crown was a bit subdued (no fights and minimal cursing), but still a great game with my Dad, and something I'll remember for a long time.
